    The avatar images are of very low resolution because the img-tag asks for 14px but the img.avatar class says 80px in the buddypress.css.

    body #bbpress-forums p.bbp-topic-meta .bbp-author-avatar img.avatar {
    position: absolute;
    left: 0;
    top: 0;
    border: 0;
    width: 80px;
    height: 80px;
    margin: 12px 16px;
    }
    <img src="http://gravatar.com/avatar/a2638ea74baa1745d4b5fba0bab6da22?d=wavatar&s=14&r=G" class="avatar user-102-avatar avatar-14 photo" width="14" height="14" alt="Profilbild von Thommy">

    Hi, partody.

    I don’t think this is a theme related issue. I think you set your avatar sizes in a BuddyPress configuration file. If you switch to using a default WordPress theme does something different happen?

    I searched this forum and I found the following post:

    http://para.llel.us/support/groups/mingle-wordpress/forum/topic/mingle-avatars-appearing-pixelated/#post-29107

    Does that post help you?

    To be perfectly frank, I know almost nothing about the BuddyPress plugin so in almost all circumstances you are best to take your BuddyPress issues to the dedicated support forum for that plugin: http://buddypress.org/support/
