Thumbs not working after trying other solutions

Same issue as many, but I am not having any luck. I changed permissions within the host as suggested and nothing.

It states to add the link to the image.

For testing purposes, I am trying to utilize this image: http://www.wegotest.com/sandra/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/ac1.png

I have put that string into Main, Small and Blog header image fields within the post. Nothing shows up. Am I doing something wrong?

Can see portfolio page here w/ no thumb: http://www.wegotest.com/sandra/portfolio-test/

    Thank you!

    Hi, wegoecono.

It will be a server permissions issue asssociated with the TimThumb script. I know this because in my browser’s error console I can see the error that is being generated on your page:

Failed to load resource: http://www.wegotest.com/sandra/wp-content/themes/theme-traject/includes/timthumb.php?src=www.wegotest.com/sandra/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/ac1.png&w=250&h=160&zc=1 the server responded with a status of 400 (Bad Request)

The issue is that whenever the timthumb.php script is run your web server is responding with a 400 Bad Request:

    http://www.wegotest.com/sandra/wp-content/themes/theme-traject/includes/timthumb.php

Have you read through the following topic? The customer there was having exactly the same problem and fixed it by adjusting the cache folder permissions:

    Thanks Jeff.

I have tried changing many permissions, but it’s not helping at all. I did try the cache as well. Host (Fatcow) said,

“I have noticed that you have created the ‘portfolio-test’ page using the theme ‘theme-traject’. It seems that you have set the incorrect image path for these pages. I suggest to login to your WordPRess admin and correct the issue or contact the theme vendor for further investigation of the issue.”

I have tried so many different permissions, I am not sure what the situation is. They are saying it’s an incorrect image path. Is there any other suggestions? Or has anyone else had specific issues on FatCow?

    Thanks so much.

There is a fact that cannot be changed no matter what FatCow tells you, and this is that when you try to run the timthumb.php script your server responds with a 400 Bad Request:

    http://www.wegotest.com/sandra/wp-content/themes/theme-traject/includes/timthumb.php

Click the link above and see for yourself.

This is a server issue. It has nothing to do with the theme, nothing to do with WordPress, but it is associated with the TimThumb script which requires groups and permissions to be set correctly on your server in order for it to write files (the thumbnails) to your server.

And despite what FatCow has told you, you have not set the incorrect image path. Click on this:

    http://ww.wegotest.com/sandra/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/ac1.png

    See?

Fat Cow is just blowing you off, they haven’t looked past the broken image symbol, which they have assumed means that you have set the an incorrect path and/or filename. They are talking out of their fat backside.

Have you tried updating the TimThumb script? The current version is 2.8.10 and you are using version 2.1.

I updated tim thumb, still no luck. And none of the permissions changes I did seems to matter. Waiting for the next tix response from fcow.

I don’t think there is much more I can do to help you. I’m not an expert with the TimThumb script, and I have never experienced problems with it on any of my servers, but I know that this is a server issue, I know that this issue is not related to the theme.

Have you googled for “timthumb bad request”? You will find hundreds of people having the same issue with their servers.

Parallelus has sold more than 10,000 themes with TimThumb in use and fewer than 0.05% ever have a problem with TimThumb. The initial setup and permissions for most servers seems to be working out of the box. Unfortunately, there is no method to set the permissions automatically.

Looks like I got it to work. I wish I could exactly pinpoint the issue that fixed it, but it may have been changing permissions on the /uploads folder again. I made so many permissions changes to test, I am not sure which one it was :) but I did follow the links you provided for that info. Thanks SO MUCH for your help – it is greatly appreciated.

I really wish there was some way that we could set the permissions correctly for you, but there isn’t. I am glad you got it sorted. Good luck with the website!

Bluehost has permanently banned all TimThumb requests as they’re found another hole in the 2.8.0 version. This is less than ideal for me to not to be able to use the images included in the theme. I have used many other themes that do not use this and have custom image types. It would be great if you could find another solution that is supported by all hosts.

    Hi, giantseattle.

I don’t see anything in that FAQ that bans the TimThumb script, and searching the internet I can’t find any information anywhere about a hole in the 2.8.0 version. The latest version of the TimThumb script is 2.8.11.

I contacted Bluehost about what you told us and here is what Bluehost technician David T. had to say:

    David T.: Hello jeffw
jeffw: Hi. Have you banned the TimThumb script?
David T.: We updated and fixed the TimThumb script. It is not banned.
jeffw: The current version of the script (2.8.11) is OK to use on your servers, yes?
    David T.: Yes
jeffw: OK, that’s all I needed to know. Thanks for your time. Bye.
